SUDBURY -- Ontario's police watchdog has invoked its mandate following the June 23 arrest of a man in Englehart.

Shortly before 3 p.m., the Temiskaming detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police and Temiskaming emergency medical personnel responded to a disturbance at a residence on Seventh Avenue.

As a result of the investigation, a 48-year-old Englehart man was arrested and charged with assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest.

"While in custody, the accused complained of an injury and was transported to the hospital for a medical examination," the OPP said in a news release.

"The OPP has notified the province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which has invoked its mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide any further information."

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 25 in Temiskaming Shores.
