Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has been called in to investigate a police-involved shooting in Sudbury's South End.
It happened Wednesday night at the Esso gas station on Regent Street.
According to the Greater Sudbury Police Service, they received information from another jurisdiction that a male who was believed to have been involved in an armed robbery was on his way to community.
Just before 11 pm April 10, officers spotted the vehicle parked at a gas station on Regent Street in the city’s South End neighbourhood.
The SIU says during an interaction with the suspect, a GSPS officer fired his weapon, hitting the 22-year-old man.
He was sent to hospital with serious injuries.
The Esso gas station, where the incident occurred, has been cordoned off while an investigation is underway.
It will be closed until further notice, as well as the attached drive-thru coffee shop and nearby auto service shop.
The SIU is a civilian oversight agency brought in to investigate police cases involving a serious injury, death or sexual assault allegations.
