Shots were fired by police officers in a town west of Kapuskasing, as they encountered a stolen vehicle suspect Thursday.

Ontario Provincial Police say members of the James Bay detachment responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the community of Val Rita-Harty around 7:13 a.m. August 15.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle in the area and as they began their investigation, they encountered the suspect. It was then that police firearms were discharged.

No injuries were reported during the incident and police say there is no further concern for public safety.

Now, a 38-year-old from Kapuskasing has been taken into police custody.

The investigation is going.
