SUDBURY -- One person is in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a shooting on Albert Street in Espanola on Thursday around 10 a.m.

Three suspects fled the scene in a vehicle and headed east on Highway 17, Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police said.

"OPP immediately engaged the assistance of Greater Sudbury Police Service, who deployed their tactical unit to assist," police said in a news release. "A short time later, the GSPS tactical unit arrested three individuals believed to be involved in the shooting while they were travelling in Lively."

The investigation is ongoing with members of the OPP's Manitoulin detachment crime unit under the direction of the OPP's criminal investigation branch.

Further information will be released as it becomes available, police said.

Few details are available, but Greater Sudbury Police have arrested three people in what's being called a "high risk" arrest on Thursday morning.

The suspects fled Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police following an unspecified incident in Espanola.

Sudbury police pulled their vehicle over and arrested them without incident on Adam Street in Lively at 11:10 a.m.

"No threat to the public safety," the OPP said. "Further information to follow when available."
