Original story:

After a tense day in Minnow Lake, Sudbury police say they have taken a second man into custody overnight in connection to a standoff on Sunday.

Police received a call Sunday at 9:35 a.m. about two men outside of a Christakos Street home with a suspected illegal firearm.

The pair had returned into the residence when officers arrived on the dead-end street in the quiet residential neighbourhood.

Shortly after police secured the area, a 30-year-old man left the home and was taken into custody without incident.

Officers closed Howey Drive to contain the scene and the public was asked to avoid the area around 11:30 a.m. It was believed that the man who remained inside the home had several guns.

Throughout the day, police made several attempts at contact with the man inside the residence, but he was reportedly uncooperative.

The standoff continued through the night and the Ontario Provincial Police sent in the Tactic and Rescue Unit along with the Emergency Response Team overnight to relieve the Sudbury tactical and canine units.

Shortly after 5:30 a.m. Monday morning, OPP entered the home and arrested the 23-year-old man inside. A neighbour told CTV News that they were told to sleep in the basement last night.

"We've lived here about a year now, and we've heard a lot of domestic disturbances and stuff like that," the neighbour said. "Whenever you see cops around, walking around your house with assault rifles and swat trucks and stuff ... it's definitely concerning.

"They were telling us stay in the basement here for the night, it's not safe to be in our rooms because it may ricochet and go through the walls. It's scary. We were just hoping that it was going to happen a lot quicker than it did. It took forever."

Both men remain in custody as the investigation continues and a search warrant will be executed at some time Monday.

Howey Drive has reopened, but officers remain on the scene until the search has been completed.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 705-675-9171.
