SUDBURY -- Sudbury health officials have confirmed the second case of COVID-19 at Lasalle Secondary School on Monday, Rainbow District School Board said in a note to parents.

This after the first case at the school was confirmed Sunday.

"The individual who tested positive is currently self-isolating and being monitored by Public Health Sudbury & Districts," said Norm Blaseg, director of education. "While the situation is evolving, public health has indicated that there is no evidence of community transmission in the school at this time. Lasalle Secondary School remains open."

Blaseg said two more classes of students have been contacted by the school and asked to self-isolate until Nov. 20.

"Simply passing by an infected person in the hallway is not considered close contact, and the risk of spreading the virus this way is extremely low," said Blaseg.

Students are directed to continue to monitor for symptoms and to use the online screening tool every day before going to school.

No outbreak has been declared at Lasalle.

As of Monday evening, there are 54 active cases of COVID-19 in the Sudbury area.
