SUDBURY -- Searchmont Resort near Sault Ste. Marie has announced it won’t be making snow this year, citing the significant cost and the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19.

In an Oct.23 Facebook post, the resort said it will review the decision should it receive enough natural snow to open for the season.

“Our historical data indicates that this would likely not occur until into January but will update everyone as the season progresses,” read the post.

Chalets, villas and other accommodation rentals are not available this season due to renovations.

The resort said season passes are not being sold at this time and any decision to reopen for skiing will be based on the “COVID-19 situation at that time and what restrictions are currently in place.”

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
