Share

Science Timmins invited people to gather at the Gillies Lake Conservation Area on Monday to marvel at the rare celestial event when the sun is covered by the moon.

People came equipped with their own viewing devices or bought a solar eclipse viewing box from the organization.

“It doesn't happen every day,” said Antoine Garwah, president of Science Timmins.

“And it's only a partial eclipse … here in Timmins will have about 82 per cent.”

Garwah said the next solar eclipse, Timmins will only get to see 21 per cent so this year’s event was a rare opportunity.
