School lockdown results in arrest in Moosonee
Police in Moosonee have arrested and charged one person after a school went into lockdown Thursday.
Shortly after 1;00 pm on May 11 members of the James Bay Detachment (Moosonee) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a school lockdown on Keewatin Drive in the town.
Upon arrival, police were able to confirm there was no active threat to the students and staff inside the school, however it remained on lockdown during the investigation.
With the assistance of the Moosonee Fire Department's Aerial Drone, police located and arrested the accused off the school property.
The lockdown was lifted just after 2:30 pm.
As a result of the investigation, a 14-year-old-person from Moosonee has been charged with:
- Assault
- Assault with a weapon
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
- Failure to comply with undertaking
The accused is being held for bail and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Monday, May 15 in Sudbury.
The youth cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
