Police in Kapuskasing have cleared the scene after several police vehicles were in the community Wednesday afternoon.

"Ontario Provincial Police have completed the investigation on Lang Avenue in Kapuskasing," police said early Wednesday evening.

"The scene has been cleared and area reopened, there is no threat to public safety. The OPP would like to thank the public for their cooperation."

In a news release Thursday, police said they received reports of someone in distress in the area.

"Shortly before 2 p.m., officers the James Bay detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to an incident involving a threat to persons at a residence on Lang Avenue in Kapuskasing," the release said.

"Through the investigation, two residences, one on Lang Avenue and one on Government Road, were cleared by OPP and no one was found to be in distress. Both scenes were cleared and the OPP was able to determine there were no further safety concerns."

There are no pending criminal charges, police added.
