Sault youth, 15, accused of putting victim in chokehold, throwing lighted stick

A young person in Sault Ste. Marie has been charged with two offences that took place in the same area Oct. 30.
The 15-year-old was first charged with assault in connection with an incident that took place around 10:30 p.m.
"911 communicators received a report of an assault outside a business in the 600 block of Second Line West," Sault police said in a news release Monday.
"An investigation revealed the accused youth had put a victim who is known to them in a chokehold and refused to let them go. They were arrested and charged with assault."
A court date of Dec. 24 was set for that case and the teen was released.

On Nov. 1, however, the same suspect was charged with assault with a weapon. Police responded around 12:20 p.m., again to Second Line West, and learned of another assault that took place Oct. 30.
"An investigation revealed the accused youth had thrown a stick -- which was on fire -- at an adult who is known to them," police said.
"The victim did not sustain physical injuries. Officers attended the accused’s residence and they were arrested. The accused youth is charged with assault with a weapon."
The accused was released on an appearance notice and will answer to all charges in the Dec. 24 court appearance.
