Sault woman wins over $100k in Sault Area Hospital's 50/50 draw

Linda Reid won $107,067.50 in September’s Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) 50/50 draw.

Linda, of Sault Ste. Marie, along with her husband Randy will share the prize.

“We love cruising! We’re definitely looking at a Hawaiian cruise," Linda is quoted as saying in a news release from SAHF.

“That’s been on our bucket list since we retired 19 years ago.”

They also plan to contribute some of the winnings to charity and give some to their children.

“Linda was shocked by the news,” Megan Wigmore, the communications officer for the foundation, said in the release.

“The SAHF team (had to) repeat the amount she’d won a few times before it truly sank in."

Linda isn’t the first Reid family member to win – her niece, Robin, won the SAHF 50/50 in November of 2020.

“So many people we know, when they’ve found out we won, have been saying ‘oh, I need to start getting those tickets, too’,” Linda shared.

All proceeds from SAHF’s lotteries go toward purchasing medical equipment at Sault Area Hospital.

“The local support for SAHF 50/50 has always been so strong, and we’re so grateful to everyone in our community who participates,” said Teresa Martone, executive director for SAHF.

“As we head toward Thanksgiving weekend, we’re saying ‘thanks’ for the continued support from our thousands of lottery purchasers each month.”

Tickets for SAHF’s October 50/50 draw are on sale now at www.soolottery.ca and features multiple cash draws throughout the month, including five $1,000 early bird prizes to be drawn on Oct. 12.

You can also buy tickets in person at the Sault Area Hospital Foundation Office on Great Northern Road, Tuesday through Thursday.
