Sault woman wins almost $140k in Sault Area Hospital's 50/50 draw
Floricel Bahay won $139,492.50 in December’s Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) 50/50 draw.
Bahay, who goes by Flora, works as a dietary aid in a Sault-area long-term care facility.
Flora got the call at work and told SAHF that she could barely believe her luck.
“Everyone at work was congratulating me and hugging me. They even announced it to the residents, and they clapped for me,” said Flora in a news release Friday.
"It’s been so exciting.”
She is originally from the Philippines and has not been able to travel home in over five years.
In the release, she said she plans to use her winnings to take a family trip back to the Philippines this summer, she’ll put some aside for her son’s education, and she’s going to treat herself to a new car.
SAHF said Flora told them she plays the 50/50 draw regularly.
All proceeds from SAHF’s lotteries go toward purchasing medical equipment at Sault Area Hospital.
”It was wonderful to end 2022 on a high note giving away a big cash prize to a local winner,” said Teresa Martone, executive director for SAHF.
“Looking back at the last year, we’re grateful for the continued success of our SAHF 50/50.”
Tickets for SAHF’s October 50/50 draw are on sale now at www.soolottery.ca and features multiple cash draws throughout the month, including a $15,000 early bird prizes to be drawn on Jan. 18.
You can also buy tickets in person at the Sault Area Hospital Foundation Office on Great Northern Road, Tuesday through Thursday.
The January jackpot is already more than $25,000. Click here for more information.
“Any support our community can give helps toward the $5 million in equipment needed at our hospital each year,” said Martone.
