A 52-year-old suspect in Sault Ste. Marie has been charged with fraud over $5,000 in connection with an investigation that began in May 2023.

Members of the police fraud unit laid the charges Monday. The charges are a result of a complaint from a business police received May 15 of last year.

"The investigation revealed the accused had made approximately $30,000 in fraudulent transactions between March of 2021 and April of 2023 on a credit card belonging to a business at which they were employed," Sault police said in a news release Tuesday.

"On Aug. 26, officers attended the accused’s residence where they were arrested and charged with fraud over $5,000."

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 4.
