The City of Greater Sudbury has a new judge.

Sault Ste. Marie lawyer, Heather-Ann Mendes, has been appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury.

She has been a lawyer for the past 14 years focusing on family and child protection law,  worked with the Office of the Children’s Lawyer since 2008, served as a family and child protection mediator since 2013, and has been a deputy judge for the small claims court since 2016.

Justice Mendes is also married to Sault Ste. Marie’s MPP Ross Romano.

When asked if the family plans on moving to Sudbury, Romano says there are some things to figure out, but he will continue to work for Sault Ste. Marie, own a home there, and pay taxes there.
