A retired Sault Ste. Marie man has won second prize in a recent Lotto 6/49 draw, lottery officials say.

James (Jim) Penfold won $52,201.40 with his March 5 lottery ticket, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation said in a news release Thursday morning.

Penfold is a retired steelworker who said he is a long-time lottery player.

He told OLG his pulse went up when he checked his ticket at the store and his wife "knew something was up" when he came home.

"I let her see it for herself. Her first words were something along the lines of 'I can see our new kitchen now,'" Penfold said.

They plan to complete the renovation with some of the money and put some in savings.

"I'll keep playing in hopes of hitting it big again," he said.

Penfold bought his winning ticket locally at Market Mall Pharmacy & Smoke Shop on Second Line.
