A 29-year-old prohibited driver is facing a long list of charges after fleeing from police when confronted on a stolen motorcycle.

Detectives with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service were patrolling the 100 block of Alexandra Street around 10 p.m. on July 18 when they saw a prohibited driver operating a motorcycle that had been reported stolen, said police in a news release.

“When detectives conducted a traffic stop, the accused ran into a residence which did not belong to them and locked the door,” said police.

“They refused to come out.”

Detectives contacted the Emergency Services Unit for assistance who then gained access to the residence and arrested the suspect without incident.

The accused is charged with being unlawfully in a dwelling house, possession of property obtained by crime, operation while prohibited, driving while under suspension and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

The accused was held pending a bail hearing.

None of the accusations has been proven in court.
