SUDBURY -- Two people in their 20s were arrested in Sault Ste. Marie on Sunday with more than $56K in suspected fentanyl and crack cocaine, police said.

Drug enforcement and patrol officers saw two people near the entrance of a Queen Street East building around 3 p.m. Aug. 16, who ran away from police and were subsequently located in a vehicle parked behind the business.

A 21-year-old man was found to be under conditions to remain at home and the 27-year-old woman was wanted on outstanding warrants.

During the arrest, both had substances believed to be narcotics in their possession. More suspected drugs were found in the vehicle they were in.

A total of 112.7 grams of fentanyl and .43 grams of crack cocaine were seized, with an estimated street value of $56,428.

Both of the accused face drug trafficking charges.

The woman was released at the scene and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 19. The man was held for bail court Monday.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
