Two people have been charged with viciously beating a victim this week in Sault Ste. Marie.

Sault police responded around 4 a.m. to a report of an assault on Wellington Street East.

“An investigation revealed a victim was struck multiple times with a shovel handle by the first accused and was punched and kicked multiple times by the second accused,” police said in a news release.

“The victim and two accused are known to each other. The victim sustained moderate physical injuries and was transported to hospital. Arrest warrants were obtained for both accused.”

Police obtained arrest warrants for the accused, ages 23 and 30, and they were arrested at 10:30 p.m. on Wellington Street East.

Both were charged with assault and for violating probation or release orders.

They are scheduled to appear in court on July 22.
