Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., police officer killed in crash after working OT shift
The Sault Police Service says that one of their officers, Const. Orrette Robinson, 36, was killed an off-duty motor vehicle collision Tuesday.
“While driving home on his motorcycle after working an overtime dynamic patrol shift, he was involved in a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Lyons Avenue and Farwell Terrace,” police said in a news release Wednesday.
“The driver of the other vehicle did not require medical attention.”
Orrette was sworn in as an officer in 2021, police said, after he was the first Sault officer to be named class valedictorian at the Ontario Police College.
“Our hearts are heavy,” Chief Hugh Stevenson said in the release.
“Orrette served our community with pride and dedication. He loved interacting with youth while out on patrols … Our hearts and support go to his family, friends, and colleagues. We thank all emergency responders for rendering assistance at the scene of the collision. Orrette will be missed.”
