A 57-year-old man has been charged with child pornography offences following an investigation that began in May.

Sault detectives began investigating following a report from a local electronic repair business of child sexual abuse materials found on a computer the man had brought in for service.

“After obtaining a warrant to examine the device, detectives completed a forensic analysis of the computer and located numerous digital files meeting the definition of child pornography under the Criminal Code,” said police in a news release Friday.

The computer’s owner attended the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Building on Aug. 28, where he was arrested without incident.

The 57-year-old is charged with both accessing of child pornography and possession of child pornography.

The accused was held pending a bail hearing.
