Sault police host community night awards
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is recognizing citizens who have gone above and beyond for their community over the past year.
This week, police held the annual Community Night Awards in recognition of people who contribute to public safety.
Stories of compassion and bravery accompanied the handing out of commemorative plaques. One of the organizations honoured was Grocer 4 Good, headed by city councillor Lisa Vezeau-Allen.
"Grocer 4 Good was a dream of mine and to see what's happening and have it come to fruition and to be recognized because we have created that neighbourhood hub," Lisa Vezeau-Allen said.
"I stand among some amazing people today and I'm really grateful that I can do what I can do."
Save Our Young Adults (SOYA) was another organization to receive an award.
"I'm so appreciative," said SOYA founder Connie Raynor-Elliott.
"I just need our city to know SOYA is all about our volunteers and our community. Everybody in our city deserves this award, we have so many heroes."
Other businesses and organizations to receive awards include The Breakfast Pig, Joe Ruscio Professional Corporation, Soo Sings for Kids, and the Heaven Cent Campaign.
