A northern Ontario woman has been charged with assault with a weapon after a stabbing at a home in Sault Ste. Marie, police say.

Police received a 911 call shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday and were dispatched to a home in the 1100 block of Great Northern Road, Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release.

"Although the accused had already left prior to officers’ arrival, an investigation revealed the accused had stabbed a victim in the leg," police said.

"The victim was taken to hospital with moderate physical injuries."

The 35-year-old suspect from Goulais River, about 30 kilometres north of the city, was arrested in the 600 block of Third Line East.

She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
