Dispatchers received a call April 27 about two young children who were left home alone without any supervision, Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release Wednesday morning.

"Officers were dispatched to the residence where they located the children," police said.

"An investigation revealed the children had been left alone, without food, for an extended period of time."

They didn't specify how long the children were left unattended, the gender of the accused or their relation to the children.

"No physical injuries were sustained," police said about the incident.

The accused was arrested when they turned themselves in at the station June 13.

They were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court Aug. 12.
