A 30-year-old suspect is being held in custody on criminal charges in Sault Ste. Marie after an argument escalated Thursday afternoon.

Emergency dispatchers received a call around 12:20 p.m. Sept. 12 about someone being threatened verbally and with a knife at an apartment building on Sussex Road, police said in a news release.

"An investigation revealed the accused had gotten into an argument with someone known to them and pulled out a knife and threatened them," police said.

"The victim did not sustain any physical injuries."

When officers arrived and knocked on the suspect's door, he refused to exit until police had a warrant.

"Officers obtained and executed a warrant and the accused was arrested without incident," police said.

The suspect is charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

He is being held pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.
