Sault police capture suspect after chase through backyards, over fences

A theft suspect led police in Sault Ste. Marie on an early-morning foot chase last week through backyards and over fences before he was captured.

The incident began Nov. 24 around 4 a.m. when a patrol on Pentagon Boulevard saw a pickup truck that had been reported stolen two days earlier in the driveway of a residence.

“When officers approached the vehicle, the accused got out and ran away, hopping fences and running through multiple yards,” sault police said in a news release Monday.

“Officers pursued the accused on foot and, despite further physical resistance, arrested them in the 400 block of McNabb Street.”

Further investigation revealed the accused was also a suspect in a break and enter Nov. 23 at a business on Lake Street during which property was damaged and cash was stolen.

The accused was rearrested for these offences.

Charges against the 38-year-old suspect include possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, break and enter, mischief, theft and driving while prohibited. Top Stories
