SUDBURY -- A man in custody at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre has been charged with attacking a corrections officer with a pencil.

The incident took place Aug. 6, and Sault Police officers were called to arrest the 25-year-old suspect.

"While in custody at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre, the accused struck a corrections officer several times with a pencil," police said in a news release. "The victim was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries."

The man is charged with assault with a weapon and assault and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 5.
