Sault man charged with threating victim with a hammer

A 50-year-old man in the Sault has been charged following an assault on Saturday that involved the use of a hammer.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a 911 call concerning an individual having been threatened with a hammer around 1:20 p.m. in the 100 block of Canal Drive.

“Officers were dispatched to the area and located the accused, who matched the description of the suspect and was carrying a hammer, nearby,” said police in a news release Monday.

“They were arrested.”

Sault police said their investigation revealed the accused had threatened the victim with the hammer while telling them to leave the area.

Police added the victim and the accused were known to each other.

As a result, the 50-year-old man was charged was assault with a weapon.

The accused was held pending a bail hearing.

None of the accusations has been proven in court.
