SUDBURY -- A 44-year-old man from Sault Ste. Marie has been charged with child luring, the Sault Police Service said in a news release.

Officers with the technological crime unit arrested the man Thursday.

"It is alleged the accused was sharing intimate images with two minors," police said.

The arrest stems from a Royal Canadian Mounted Police investigation in Alberta that began May 25.

"During the investigation, officers with the Northern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation Unit discovered the accused resided in Sault Ste. Marie and contacted the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service," police said.

Officers arrived at the 0-100 block of Cambridge Place and executed a search warrant, but the accused was not home at the time. A number of electronic devices were seized.

"The accused was located a short time later and arrested," police said. "He is charged with two counts of luring a child, two counts of making sexually explicit material available to a child and possession of child pornography."

He was held for bail court.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service's technological crime unit is a member of the Ontario Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet. The strategy consists of 27 partnering municipal agencies working together to rescue victims and combat child exploitation. The strategy was made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
