Sault impaired driving suspect left gas nozzle in vehicle, drove away
A 28-year-old has been charged following an incident Sunday at a gas station in Sault Ste. Marie.
Police received a 911 call at 8 p.m. about a vehicle being driven erratically on Second Line West, before pulling into a gas station.
“The accused got out of the vehicle, pumped some gas into the vehicle, then drove off without paying and with the nozzle still in the vehicle, damaging the gas pump,” Sault police said in a news release Monday.
“Officers located the vehicle a short time later and safely conducted a traffic stop. Officers developed grounds to believe the accused’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and they were arrested.”
The suspect failed a breathalyzer test and is charged with impaired driving, mischief and theft under $5,000. Their next court date is May 27.
