Sault flu clinics delayed as supply of flu vaccine runs out

SUDBURY -- Demand for the flu vaccine in Sault Ste. Marie has outstripped supply, forcing the postponement of flu clinics.

In a news release Monday, the Algoma Ontario Health Team said the clinics scheduled to run Nov. 13-14 at the GFL Memorial Gardens will have to be rescheduled.

"Appointment lines will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 10 and Wednesday, Nov. 11," the team said in a news release. "The Algoma OHT flu clinic team anticipates offering additional flu clinics at the GFL Memorial Gardens upon the confirmation of our next allotment of flu vaccine."

An announcement will be made for the next clinics once the new vaccine supply is received, the release said.

"Algoma OHT, alongside many groups across the city, have substantially increased access to the flu vaccine this year, and given the unprecedented demand, they are constrained by the supply of vaccine ordered by the Ministry of Health," the releaser said.

"Individuals wanting to receive a flu vaccine are urged to monitor additional supply via pharmacies, primary care or Algoma Public Health."

A limited supply is available for higher-risk populations. Algoma OHT flu clinic, organized by the Algoma Ontario Health Team, has provided more than 2,300 people with the annual flu vaccine.
