Sault motorist stopped at green light charged with impaired driving on New Year’s Eve
A New Year’s Eve traffic stop in the Sault has led to impaired driving charges for a local resident.
“At approximately 11:37 p.m., a Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police officer was conducting general patrol when they observed a vehicle remain stopped at a green light on Great Northern Road,” said police in a news release.
“A traffic stop was conducted and investigation determined the vehicle driver had consumed alcoholic beverages.”
As a result of the incident, the 33-year-old faces two impaired driving charges.
In addition to the charges, the accused also had their licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle involved was impounded by police for seven days at the owner’s expense.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 3 to answer the charges.
