The designs come from the first round of public consultations earlier this year that asked for ideas on amenities, events and programming. It is the latest step in the city’s quest to produce a waterfront design plan aimed at transforming it into a world-class destination.
“We took what we heard from the community and we’ve done some conceptual designs,” said Travis Anderson, Director of Tourism and Community Development.
“Now we’re going back out to the community and looking for their thoughts and opinions on what we have so far. Once we’re done that, we’ll come back with a final conceptual design.”
More than 900 people provided feedback on what kind of development they would like to see on the waterfront.
City officials said they are looking at a sizeable piece of waterfront property – with a particular focus on the downtown segment.
“The conceptual design covers from the Canal District all the way to the former hospital site, and then we’ve got a much more detailed design from the Bondar Marina to the Bushplane,” said Anderson.
Design concepts will be presented at an open house on May 1 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at City Hall.
Anderson told CTV News a survey can also be filled out on the city’s website. Feedback on the design concepts will be accepted until May 14.
