Salvation army officials in Sudbury say they are closing its ‘New Life Centreon larch street as of May 10th.

Major Bruce Shirran calls it an incredibly difficultdecision, but says it's no longer viable for the Salvation Army to run the 20-bed shelter.

He says the agency will be working in coming weeks with the city to make sure clients are taken care of, and with the Steelworkers Union to make sure the 11 employees are supported.

The new life centre's been in Sudbury since 1956.
