Safe Health Site Timmins remains open, currently funded by the hospital
Safe Health Site Timmins, a supervised overdose prevention site, was scheduled to close at the end of March due to funding running out, but that did not happen.
CTV News confirmed Wednesday that it is still open, but details about its future remain unclear due to a lack of information from local and provincial health officials.
In an email to CTV News, the Timmins and District Hospital said it has “identified an external funding source to support the continued operations of the site and will provide additional details when they are available.”
A rumour going around the community said the funds are coming from the hospital foundation’s 50/50 raffle, but officials said that is not true.
Safe Health Site Timmins has been operating as an urgent public health needs site. It’s been funded in part by the City of Timmins and the hospital.
The Canadian Mental Health Association – Cochrane Timiskaming Branch has been waiting for government approval to operate a permanent site and said it’s expecting an answer soon.
