Rideshare driver in the Sault charged with sexually assaulting two passengers

A 30-year-old rideshare driver in Sault Ste. Marie has been charged with two counts of sexual assault following incidents that took place early in the morning of July 6.

Police in the Sault said in a news release Wednesday that the suspect was charged July 30.

“Around 3:30 a.m. on July 6 … 911 communicators received a report of a sexual assault by a rideshare driver,” police said.

“An investigation revealed the accused had sexually assaulted two victims who ordered transportation services from the rideshare company while driving the victims to their destination. The accused and the victims are not known to one another.”

The suspect in the case was arrested after they went to police headquarters Tuesday and turned themselves in.

After being charged they were released on an undertaking with a court date of Sept. 23.
