SUDBURY -- October 11 was the official opening of Sudbury's 43rd pedestrian crossover.

A group of residents from a nearby retirement home were on hand for the occasion.

With many seniors in the area, it was a welcomed addition to the neighbourhood.

"As far as a difference for the residents, now they have the safety. They know they cross here safely without rushing. They've always been nervous, especially in the wintertime. It's been challenging for them. Now, they have a peace of mind," said Bill Leduc, Sudbury City Councillor.

"I'm thankful for the city to have put the lights up. Most of us do cross a little slower, and the traffic is very fast… we've very appreciative of the walkway," said Claire Gravelle, area resident.

The new crossover is all part of the city's strategy for a healthy community.
