Man facing weapons charges after police operation in Moose Jaw

Moose Jaw police say a 31-year-old man is facing weapons charges after they conducted an operation in the city on Thursday.

According to a news release from Moose Jaw police, 31-year-old Michael Tufano was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for breaching parole conditions.

Tufano was on parole after being convicted of criminal negligence causing death by criminal negligence with a firearm and drug-related offences in November of 2022.

Moose Jaw police say he was prohibited from possessing a firearm for 10 years.

On Thursday, police conducted an operation on the 1200 block of Vaughan Street where Tufano was arrested.

Inside a house, officers found a handgun.

As a result, Moose Jaw police say Tufano was charged with possession of a loaded or restricted firearm, two counts of breach of weapon prohibition, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, careless use of a firearm and possession of an unauthorized firearm.

He was scheduled to make his first court appearance on the charges on Friday, Moose Jaw police said.
