SUDBURY -- Significant rain and wind is expected for communities including Elliot Lake – Ranger Lake, Greater Sudbury and vicinity, Manitoulin – Blind River, Killarney, North Bay – West Nipissing – French River, and Sault Ste. Marie – Superior East with possible rainfall totals of 30mm to 50mm. Winds are also expected to reach 70km/h.

West Nipissing, French River across through to Sudbury and the surrounding area will see that rain turn to light snow Sunday night while Manitoulin Island, Blind River – Thessalon, Espanola, and Killarney should expect wind gusts to diminish during the day before turning to strong northwesterly winds of up to 90km/h late Sunday afternoon.

Heavy snow and snow-covered roads will reduce visibility and create potentially hazardous driving conditions.

Additional wind warnings may be issued by Environment Canada as weather conditions progress.

Communities including Geraldton - Manitouwadge – Hornepayne, Kapuskasing – Hearst, Moosonee – Fort Albany and Little Abitibi - Kesagami Lake are all expected to receive snow this evening, which could turn heavy throughout the day Sunday. Scattered flurries are set to continue through to Monday morning where forecast data shows a total 10 to 15 cm of possible snowfall.

Conditions are expected to taper off for all communities by Monday afternoon.

Special weather statements issued by Environment Canada are the least urgent type of alert while weather advisories are issued for "specific weather events that are less severe, but could still significantly impact Canadians."
