SUDBURY -- In this season of giving, Pure Country 91.7 is hosting a Diaper Drive to help Sudbury's Pregnancy Care Centre and Infant Food Bank
The radio team is currently trying to build a 'diaper wall' as tall as they can before next Friday.
"We're trying to create what we call a diaper wall and in fact I would love to build a diaper castle in our radio station… It was a smashing success alst year and we are excited to do it again this year, and I'm really relying on our generous donors and the generosity of Sudburians to come through in a big way," said Bryan Cooper, Pure Country 91.7 Morning Host.
At the Infant Food Bank, staff members say they are overwhelmed by the amount of diapers that they Pure Country Diaper Drive brought in last year.
"Because of that diaper drive, we were able to give out enough diapers to carry families for about ten days out of the month instead of only about six days out of the month," said Dedee Flietstra, Infant Food Bank Executive Director.
Flietstra says each year the centre helps between 600 to 900 families with children under the age of two who are living in poverty here in the city.
"It's so many families in fact that we do have to hand out smaller portions diapers. We cannot hand out full boxes. Our need becomes more pronounced the last half of the summer and going into the winter month," she explained.
Staff members say because of the large demand, they are always in need of formula and larger sized diapers.
For anyone wanting to donate, items can be dropped off at Pure Country Radio's building on Elm Street.
