TIMMINS -- Newmont Goldcorp's Porcupine site is offering people a first look at its Hollinger Open Pit Lookout.

Located off of Brunette Road in Timmins, the lookout will give the public a chance to observe the site’s mining operations with a clear view of machinery, such as: drills, large caterpillar trucks, and bulldozers.

It’s a project officials say the mining company promised to give the community for an inside look at just what goes on in the pit.

Marc Lauzier is the general manager at Newmont Goldcorp Porcupine Gold Mines.

"It’s along the theme of being transparent. I’m very proud of my team, I'm proud of my workers, I'm proud of the work they do, and I want the community to be proud of them as well. This is a good opportunity for them to see how clean the pit is, how organized the pit is, and the good work that everyone’s doing,” said Lauzier.

The open pit lookout is open for public viewing until Sunday, then it will close, and will re-open in the spring for the rest of the summer in 2020.
