Provincial police investigating northwestern Ont. death, victim identified

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in partnership with the Treaty Three Police Service (T3PS) are investigating a death in Shoal Lake 39 First Nation.

In a news release late Friday, OPP identified the victim as 18-year-old William Prince, a local of the Indigenous community.

Police have released few details related to the situation that resulted in his death.

On Jan. 17, OPP units were contacted by T3PS to assist with an investigation where an individual was located on a roadway, police said in the release.

“(He) was later pronounced deceased,” the OPP said.

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

An autopsy will be conducted in Toronto to determine the cause of death.

“There is no threat to public safety.,” said police.
