NORTH BAY -- Hospitals in Sturgeon Falls and Mattawa are receiving money from Queen’s Park as part of a province-wide increase announced last week.

The West Nipissing General Hospital will receive $156,000 and the Mattawa General Hospital is receiving a $66,000 increase, according to Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli.

"Our government is supporting area hospitals by ensuring they have the resources they need to meet the growing needs of our community," said Fedeli in a statement. "This new investment is another example of how Ontario is supporting high-quality and timely access to health care, while delivering on our commitment to end hallway health care."

Ontario’s Health Minister, Christine Elliott, announced last week the province is going to give $68 million in additional funding to support 89 hospitals across the province. Elliot says the money is going to fix long-standing issues for small-and medium-sized hospitals.

Included in the funding, is a one per cent increase for 66 small-sized hospitals and a 1.5 per cent increase for 23 medium-sized hospitals.

This new investment is on top of the $384 million more that Ontario’s hospitals received this year as part of the province’s 2019 budget.

Ontario also plans to invest $27 billion over the next 10 years in hospital infrastructure projects across Ontario, including adding 3,000 new hospital beds.
