NORTH BAY -- The Ford government has opened a new emergency child day care centre for front-line workers in North Bay.

In a media release issued to CTV News, Conservative MPP Vic Fedeli says the newly opened North Bay Daycare Centre will ensure that front-line health care workers including: doctors, nurses, paramedics, firefighters, police, and correctional officers will be able to access safe, local emergency child care.

"We know that as healthcare and other frontline workers try to keep us safe, they could use help on the home front,” said Fedeli in the release.

As previously announced, Ontario is exempting certain childcare centres from closing in order to support front-line workers and health care workers.

North Bay Daycare Centre joins the YMCA Mother St. Bride Centre, YMCA Woodland Early Learning and Child Care Centre in North Bay and Fairview Early Learning and Child Care Centre in Powassan, as available options.

These centres are providing comprehensive learning with fun programs for children and will operate under different schedule models, based on the parents' work hours.

Parents and children are screened by staff in PPE every time they arrive.

"We are teaming up with partners to deliver, in unprecedented speed, child care centres near hospitals and other health care facilities across Ontario," said Fedeli.

Meanwhile, Ontario public schools will stay closed until September and online learning will take place for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.
