The Prime Minister made an early morning visit on Wednesday to the Sault to talk to steelworkers during the shift change at the Algoma steel plant.

Justin Trudeau is on a tour of several cities that are home to steel and aluminum operations, as he tries to calm fears in communities about the threat of potential tariffs by the U.S. government.

Trudeau met with steelworkers around 7am at the Algoma plant, and then toured the facility.

"We're not looking to win and give a hard time to US and Mexico. We want a good deal for everyone. We can get to it, but it will be a good deal for Canada." said Trudeau.

Some workers came in early or stayed after their shifts for the chance to meet the Prime Minister.  Here’s what some had to say about Justin Trudeau being in the Sault.

“Everybody here is concerned. We are all waiting to hear what the next news is on trump. I'd like to hear what he has to say for what his plan is for if they do go through to save jobs in Sault Ste. Marie, Hamilton and the other steel towns." said Algoma employee, Tristyn Berto.

“I think it's good that Canada is taking an interest in small communities and keeping our industry going, industry based town, we need to bring some of that back here." said Steven Bibeau.

"He's obviously concerned that's why he's visiting all the steel centres in Canada and shaking hands and stuff like that. Unfortunately, it takes a little bit more than shaking hands, it takes action." said Randy Dettorre.

Prime Minister Trudeau later hosted a roundtable discussion on the steel industry, where he was joined by management from Algoma, as well as USW leaders and other and community officials.

He moved on next to visit a plant in Regina.
