Premier Doug Ford made a surprise visit to North Bay Friday, April 5.

He accompanied Ontario Finance Minister and Nipissing MP Vic Fedeli at the opening of a new nurse practitioner-led clinic in downtown North Bay.

Ford helped cut the ribbon.

Doctor Sarah Eckler is a physician at Ontario Addictions Treatment Centre and a collaborator for the new North Bay Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic Downtown.

“The Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic-Downtown is a great opportunity to better serve the community. Access to primary health care is an important factor in all our lives and the Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic Downtown will have a meaningful impact on people’s overall well-being.” said Dr. Eckler.

By opening this new clinic, an additional three new Nurse Practitioners will join the city's healthcare resources.

The new primary care clinic will begin accepting patients April 8 online and in-person.

This team approach to healthcare, while Nurse Practitioner-Led, is a collaboration between various healthcare professionals:

  • Nurses
  • Family Physicians
  • Social workers
  • Dietician
  • Case Manager
  • Support staff

After the event at the clinic, Ford visited a local shoe repair shop before taking questions from reporters.

The premier continues to stand by his government's commitment to changing the licence plate slogans, including plans to change commercial plates to read 'Open for business.'

“We are open for business. Our government has created the environment here in Ontario for the first time in 15 years we've created the environment that 132,000 people in the private sector got hired because companies have certainty now." said Ford.

The premier was also asked about the province-wide student walkout Thursday.

He says more money is going to education in the provincial budget coming next week.
