Power outages in Onaping and Bear Island areas

On a morning where the region is under an extreme cold warning with temperatures dropping to – 40 C with the wind chill, hundreds of people are without power.

More than 150 people in the Onaping area of Greater Sudbury are without power Tuesday morning.

Hydro One said crews are working in the area and iniatially the power was expected to be restored around 12:30 p.m. An update on the utility's outage map said 3 p.m.

The cause of the outage has been identified as "repairing equipment," Hydro One said.

A downed power line in the Bear Island area near Temagami caused around 186 people to lose power Tuesday morning.

Hydro One spokesperson Alicia Sayers told CTV News in a phone call repair crews will have take more than 300 additional customers offline to complete repairs. The estimated restoration time is around 3 p.m.
