SUDBURY -- With spring weather making an appearance, residents in several northeastern Ontario communities are being warned to be extra careful around rivers, creeks and watersheds.

Both Conservation Sudbury and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry - North Bay District have issued flood outlooks for the area.

Temperatures are expected to remain above freezing all weekend with 20 mm of rain in the forecast for both Saturday and Sunday.

Officials say conditions will likely increase snow and ice melting, resulting in runoff and increased water levels and flow.

With children being out of school right now, families who live near bodies of water are urged to keep a close eye on changing water conditions.

Stream banks are also expected to be slippery and unsafe and open-water areas should be avoided as ice begins to melt and break away.

A flood outlook is issued to warn residents of the potential for flooding based on the weather forecast.

The outlook for North Bay remains in effect until March 31 and in the Greater Sudbury Area until April 2.
