SAULT STE. MARIE – Sault Ste. Marie's Chief Administration Officer Malcom White is recommending to City Council that it should take over Tourism Sault Ste. Marie and the Economic Development Corporation.

This would see roughly 17 staff members become city employees.

White believes this would allow both the EDC and Tourism Sault Ste. Marie the best opportunity to function.

"To my mind, it is the most effective use of staff and allowing you to have a bigger pool of staff to put on certain projects when you need to," said White.

He says if approved, the change would start January 1, and there could be possible layoffs if there is some job duplication.

City Council will hear the motion on Monday.
