TIMMINS -- The Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) in Timmins recorded a new positive case of COVID-19 on the morning of Oct.10.

The individual who tested positive is 19-years-old or less and the areas listed on the information bulletin include: Area of Kapuskasing, Opasatika, Val Rita-Harty, Moonbeam, Fauquier-Strickland.

It is the first positive case reported from this area since Mar. 27. That case was an individual between 40 to 59 years of age who was exposed through contact with a known case.

This remains the only active case confirmed within the PHU district after all other cases were resolved earlier this week. 

The individual was tested on Oct. 6 and the investigation into their exposure is on-going.

It marks 86th positive case within the district since the pandemic began.

If you think you may have COVID-19 symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who has it, first self-isolate and seek testing through one of the 145 assessment centres across Ontario.

To reduce the risk of exposure, we ask that you continue to follow public health measures:

  • wash your hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • sneeze and cough into your sleeve
  • avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
  • stay home and isolate if you have any symptoms
  • practice 2 metres physical distancing
  • wear a mask in indoor public spaces and outdoors when physical distancing of 2 metres/6 feet cannot be maintained.
